Cincinnati native and defensive end Sam Hubbard announced his retirement from the NFL on March 5, 2025, concluding a remarkable seven-season career with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Hubbard attended Archbishop Moeller High School, where he excelled in football. He continued his athletic journey at Ohio State University before being selected by the Bengals in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Throughout his tenure with the Bengals, Hubbard became a cornerstone of the team’s defense. He played in 104 games, amassing 398 tackles, 38.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries. His consistent performance included achieving at least six sacks in five of his six NFL seasons.

One of Hubbard’s most memorable moments came during the 2022 playoffs when he returned a fumble recovery for a 98-yard touchdown, showcasing his athleticism and playmaking ability.

Off the field, Hubbard’s impact was equally significant. In 2021, he established the Sam Hubbard Foundation, aiming to support and uplift his local community. His dedication to service earned him the Bengals’ nomination for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in both 2021 and 2022.

Hubbard’s retirement marks the end of an era for the Bengals, as they bid farewell to a hometown hero who embodied resilience, leadership, and commitment both on and off the field.
