Cincinnati NAACP Demands Independent Investigation Into Ryan Hinton Shooting

The Cincinnati NAACP is calling for an independent investigation following the fatal police shooting of 18-year-old Ryan Hinton, urging transparency, accountability, and a commitment to preventing further loss of life in the community.

NAACP President David Whitehead commended the Cincinnati Police Department for the prompt release of body camera footage, which has sparked public outcry and calls for a deeper review of the events leading to the shooting. While acknowledging the difficult circumstances surrounding the incident, including the alleged actions of Ryan’s father, Rodney Hinton Jr.—accused of killing a Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy—Whitehead stressed that every individual must be treated with dignity and due process under the law.

“The community deserves to know that the policies and procedures meant to protect all citizens are being followed consistently and fairly,” Whitehead said. “Our call for an independent investigation is not about placing blame—it’s about ensuring justice, transparency, and trust in our systems.”

In a clear message to both law enforcement and demonstrators, the Cincinnati NAACP also denounced any form of intimidation or violence, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to peaceful advocacy and constructive dialogue.

As tensions remain high, the NAACP continues to stand with the community in demanding truth, accountability, and systemic reform. The organization is urging city leaders and outside agencies to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation into Ryan Hinton’s death to help restore faith in the justice system.
