If you watched the 2024 Paris Olympics, you’ve likely cheered on several Ohioans! Ohio often falls under the radar in conversation of best places to vacation, luxe restaurants, or celebrity spottings. But make no mistake, Ohio has bred some of the best performing athletes in the world. Rich in sports culture, it’s no question how Ohioans made it to the World’s Stage! Ohio State University alone sent an impressive group of athletes to the Paris Games. It is reported that two dozen current, incoming, and former student-athletes competed in this year’s games—marking the second-largest group in the school’s history. In total, over 40 Olympians have ties to the Buckeye State, contributing to Team USA’s final roster of 592 athletes.

The Olympic flame was extinguished during an eventful closing ceremony on Sunday, August 11th, officially wrapping the 2024 Paris Games. It’s no secret Ohioans marked their territory in several events. Akron’s LeBron James and Stephen Curry led Team USA to Gold in Basketball, defeating France in an 11-point lead. Meanwhile, the legendary Simone Biles added three more Gold medals and a Silver to her record. Dover’s own, Hunter Armstrong, struck Gold in the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay. Track & Field star Annette Echikunwoke made history by winning Silver in the Women’s Hammer Throw, becoming the first American woman to medal in the event since its Olympic debut in 2000. As Los Angeles gears up to host the 2028 Games, Ohio’s athletes have, once again, proven their place on the world stage and the big screen.
